Resilient Community Livelihoods Support Program
Implemented by: Terra Verde Consult
Location: Kapiri Mposhi – Mulungushi area & Kabwe – Ngabwe area, Central Province, Zambia
Terra Verde Consult is implementing a 6-month (June – December 2026) research and action project in Central Province focused on resilient community livelihoods, environmental sustainability, and biodiversity conservation. The Kapiri Mposhi-Mulungushi and Kabwe-Ngabwe areas face growing pressure from small-scale mining, charcoal production, and climate shocks like drought and erratic rainfall, which threaten farmland, forests, and water sources.
The project assesses how these pressures affect local livelihoods, soil health, and biodiversity along the Mulungushi River and surrounding woodlands. We’re combining household surveys, agroecology trials, and biodiversity monitoring to co-design climate-smart solutions with communities.
Outputs Inlude:
- A resilience baseline for both districts
- Practical guidelines for sustainable farming, water use, and responsible mining practices, and
- Pilot livelihood options like drought-tolerant crops, agroforestry, and alternative income streams to reduce forest dependence.
Goal:
Help communities thrive while restoring land and protecting biodiversity for future generations.
