Mining Investment & Governance for Accountability Program
Implemented by: Terra Verde Consult
Location: Sinazongwe District, Southern Province, Zambia
Terra Verde Consult is implementing a 6-month (June – December 2026) technical program in Sinazongwe District to strengthen responsible mining investment and governance. Sinazongwe has growing small-scale and emerging large-scale mining interest, but communities face risks around land use, water impacts, and unequal benefit-sharing.
The program works directly with district authorities, traditional leaders, mining investors, and community committees. We combine compliance audits, investor capacity building, and community engagement to align operations with Zambia’s mining laws, ESG standards, and FPIC principles.
Outputs Inlude:
- Baseline assessment of 8 mine sites in Sinazongwe on environmental, social, and labor practices
- Training for investors + local leaders on responsible mine closure, water stewardship, and community benefit agreements
- Co-development of district mining monitoring guidelines.
Goal:
Ensure mining investment in Sinazongwe drives local livelihoods and protects land + water, so communities and investors both gain long-term value.
